Thirteenth Moon Center offers winter shamanic class

Dec 27, 2017

Montville — “The Birthday of the Trees,” a class presented by Susan Bakaley Marshall and Chris Marshall, will be offered Sunday, Jan. 14, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a snow date of Jan. 20. The class takes place near the time of a centuries-old Judaic holiday, Tu B’Shevat, known as the Birthday of the Trees.

At this time of deepest cold and dark, a spark of life is stirring in the roots of trees, though growth hasn't yet begun. Trees can teach people about this hidden "inkling" that precedes all creating, showing them how their own inner spark can grow and flourish.

The group will gather in a light-filled studio amid fields and forests of Montville to learn shamanic practices, ask for teachings about their own inner spark, and find new direction in the wider world.

Participants can expect to come away with a deeper awareness of their place in the community of people, trees, land, and spirit, some basic practice in working with spirits of land and trees, and a refreshed soul. Participants will have the opportunity to be both outdoors and indoors.

Susan Bakaley Marshall is an art therapist and Chris Marshall is a professor of anthropology; both are shamanic practitioners. For more information and to register, call 589-3063, email moonarts@gmail.com or visit thirteenthmooncenter.net.
