“Gray’s Elegy at Stoke Poges”, an important oil on canvas painting by Jasper Cropsey (NY, 1823-1900), will be featured at Thomaston Place Auction Galleries' Winter 2018 auction on Saturday, February 17.

Join us at Thomaston Place Auction Galleries on February 16, 17 & 18 starting at 11:00 a.m. each day for our Winter Fine Art & Antiques Auction Weekend. This exciting sale will include 1,665 lots, including traditional and modern artwork, marine items, important ephemera, estate jewelry, fine clocks, Asian antiques, antiquities, Inuit sculptures & artifacts, furniture, and rare decorative pieces.

On Saturday, February 17, the auction will feature an outstanding collection of artwork, including works by Jasper Cropsey, William Aiken Walker, Thomas Eakins, and James Taylor Harwood; plus equestrian paintings by Charles Walter Simpson, Franklin Voss, Haddon Sundblom, Lionel Edwards, and Henry Lucas.  There will also be a nice group of equine-related items, led by the 1932 sterling silver trophy from The Royal Hunt Cup, Ascot (England), This day will offer an elephant folio engraving of the Red Headed Woodpecker (Pl. 27) by John James Audubon; an important grouping of Admiral Nelson era British Royal Navy documents; and the Edmund P. Skillin Collection of fine scrimshaw and antique nautical items (including several pieces from his great friend, Arctic explorer Rear Admiral Donald MacMillan) which has been on loan to a Maine museum for the past 35 years.

Finally, there will be an important collection of 18th and 19th Century Chinese export armorial porcelain, fine antique furniture, antiquities, Indo-Persian treasures, firearms & militaria, early clocks, Asian antiques, and oriental carpets.
