Thorndike column

By Linda Dixon

I think we all need to leave for a warmer and snow-free climate soon! I am very tired of all this shoveling to keep the deck and ramp open so that Dustin can get out in an emergency.

On Sunday, March 18, beginning at 10:15 a.m., the Thorndike Congregational Church will honor our Waldo County veterans and first responders (EMTs, ambulance drivers, firefighters, 911 dispatchers and law enforcement officers) at a special service. Attendees should arrive earlier if they wish to light a candle in memory of someone who served in one of these capacities. There will be recognition for all our heroes, special music and light refreshments to follow. Maine Senate President Mike Thibodeau will join us to honor these special men and women, who have served our country and those who serve the community by coming to our aid during some of the most difficult moments of our lives. Everyone is welcome. Bring your heroes so that we may honor them. For more information: or 322-2260.

Happy St. Patrick's Day and may you enjoy plenty of green beer.

Bernard Meltzer was quoted as saying, "A true friend is someone who thinks that you are a good egg even though he knows that you are slightly cracked."

Please contact me with your news items by Thursday evening of each week, as I have an earlier deadline.
