Condolences to the family and friends of Barbara Ellis. She was a lot of fun and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.

Congratulations to Lincoln, Tori, Kyli and L. J. on the birth of Dennis Odber on Oct. 4.

The Garden Variety has reopened in Thorndike, at the old post office. The hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursday through Saturday. Stop by for a nice cup of tea and see all that she has to offer, from the unusual to the practical. You just may find that perfect something for yourself or a gift for a friend.

The annual hunters' breakfast, in memory of Austin J. Grant, will be held Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Thorndike Town Office. If you have something to donate or would like to help, please contact Lori Grant.

On Oct. 20 and 21, there will be an open house at the former East Knox Schoolhouse, on Route 220 near the Bessey place, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. Refreshments will be available. I am looking forward to seeing this old school again. I attended that school once upon a time. We were not allowed to save the old school in Thorndike, but this one survived.

Yes, folks, lock everything up. I had my father's old truck stolen right out of my yard. I had hidden the keys in behind some old cassette tapes, but if they search long enough, they will find them if they are in there. So now, every time I get out of the truck, the keys are in my pocket. What a pain.

Have a great week and get your house and garden all ready for the winter season. Every day is one more day closer to spring.

Warren Buffett is quoted as saying, "You only find out who is swimming naked when the tide goes out."
