Statewide, Golden may have edge

Three Democrats seek primary nomination in 2nd Congressional District

Jun 12, 2018

While four names appear on the Democratic primary ballot for Maine's 2nd Congressional District, votes for only three candidates will be counted.

Monroe builder Jonathan Fulford withdrew from the race last month, too late to have his name removed from the official ballots. Remaining in the race to challenge incumbent Republican Rep. Bruce Poliquin are Jared Golden of Lewiston, Craig Olson of Islesboro and Lucas St. Clair of Hampden.

The race is one of several to be decided by ranked-choice ballot, so the official outcome may not be known for several days. The following chart shows first-round unofficial results from Waldo County towns.

At 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Waldo County voters showed a preference for St. Clair, but only by fewer than 25 votes, with six towns yet to report election results. Fulford received nearly as many votes as Olson, both coming in well behind the two front-runners.

Results from each town will be updated as they become available.
