Timely tale for Friday Flix

Mar 16, 2019

Belfast — Belfast Free Library’s Friday Night Flix film series has Best Picture Oscar Winners as its theme for March, presenting Academy Award winners spanning the 1960s to the 1990s. The weekly movies are free and screened Fridays at 7 p.m. in the Abbott Room of the library, 106 High St.

The series continues March 22 with “Kramer vs. Kramer” (1979, USA), a movie that was perfect for its time. It dramatically explores the pressing issues of the 1970s — divorce, gender roles, women’s rights, a father’s rights and single parenthood. Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep star in this beautifully written tale of a family torn asunder by divorce, with a young child caught in the middle.

“Kramer vs. Kramer” won five Academy Awards including Best Picture and acting Oscars for Hoffman and Streep. The series will conclude March 29 with “In the Heat of the Night” (1967, USA).
