Two days later, Houlton too tough for Mount View in opener

Game postponed from Sept. 7 as Mustangs host Aroostook County foe

Thorndike — Albeit two days later than originally scheduled, the Mount View football team opened the fall campaign on Monday afternoon, Sept. 9 against visiting Houlton.

And the Shiretowners, after being held off the scoreboard in the first quarter, saw their offense come to life in the middle stanzas as they passed, rushed and kicked past the Mustangs to a 40-0 high school gridiron victory.

The game originally was scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7, but was postponed due to rain.

The Mustang offense was paced on the ground by Mark Ward (88 yards), Jacob Nelson (4 yards), Joe LePore (25 yards), Zach Ward (6 yards), Kayden Doughty (3 yards) and Sawyer Inman (12 yards).

Inman also had one 11-yard completion to Garrett Smith.

Leading the Mount View defense were Gabe Gagnon (5 solo tackles, 11 assisted tackles), Hayden Hunt (2 solos, 7 assists), Jacob Nelson (2 solos, 2 assists), Mark Ward (3 solos, 11 assists, interception), Garrett Smith (3 solos, 2 assists), Colby Ingraham (2 assists), Joe LePore (2 assists), Oliver Brown (3 solos, 4 assists), Zach Ward (assist), Kayden Doughty (solo, 2 assists), Mike Cole (solo, 4 assists, fumble recovery), Eric Braley (solo, 6 assists), Landon Arnold (2 assists), Sam Valleau (solo, 4 assists) and Garrett Dunton (assist).

Caleb Solomon contributed on three touchdowns to lead Houlton, which has student-athletes from Hodgdon and Greater Houlton Christian Academy, while Noah Reynolds (72 rushing yards, touchdown, 2-point conversion), Ethan Grant (16 rushing yards), Chris Caswell (3 yards, touchdown), Darrien Henderson (49 rushing yards, touchdown) and Will Belyea (30 yards rushing, 2-point conversion) also chipped in for the Shiretowners.
