Two juveniles charged in vandalism at gravel pit

By Sarah E. Reynolds | Aug 03, 2020

Prospect — Two Bangor 17-year-olds have been charged with criminal mischief stemming from a May 3 incident at a gravel pit on Route 1A.

The original complaint came from the owner, who said that when employees arrived for work Monday morning, May 4, they discovered the damaged front-end loaders.

Sheriff Jeff Trafton said the two juveniles posted video online of themselves driving front-end loaders and crashing one into the other. He said his office received two anonymous calls from people who had seen the video, and police were able to identify the youths. He added that two or three other juveniles were also at the gravel pit, but only the two charged were involved in the incident, which caused an estimated $80,000 in damage to the equipment.

The two, whose names are not being released because of their ages, were charged with aggravated criminal mischief and unauthorized use of equipment, the sheriff said. He did not know when the pair were to be arraigned.
