Belfast — A two-vehicle accident that occurred on Route 1 near the Waldo Avenue off-ramp Monday afternoon, July 9, left both vehicles totaled, but the occupants escaped with minor injuries, according to police.

Belfast Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham said the crash, which occurred just before 2 p.m., occurred as 35-year-old Jennifer Sfreddo of Rye, N.Y. was headed south on Route 1 in a 2010 Lexus. Sfreddo reportedly slowed her vehicle as she approached the off-ramp, at which time 27-year-old Devin Pratt of Belfast was headed down the ramp and onto Route 1 in a 1999 Ford pickup.

Cunningham said Pratt was unable to stop in time to avoid rear-ending Sfreddo's vehicle. Sfreddo had two children with her in the vehicle, ages four and six, and while Cunningham said Belfast Ambulance attendants examined Sfreddo and the children at the scene, none of them appeared to have any serious injuries. Pratt also escaped the accident unharmed.
