UMaine offers tuition-free early college courses for qualified high school students

Through a partnership between the Maine Department of Education and the University of Maine System, tuition is waived for qualified high school students in Maine to cover full tuition for up to 12 college credits per year. Registration is open through Jan. 25, 2019, at

Starting Jan. 22, 2019, the university will offer spring courses suitable for rising high school juniors and seniors. Interested students and parents are encouraged to contact Allison Small, early college programs coordinator, at 581-8004 or, to learn more about the application process.

Classes are taught by UMaine faculty and meet general education requirements of the University of Maine System, as well as the majority of colleges nationwide. Students can benefit from the flexibility and variety of live (in Belfast and Orono) and online early college courses offered this spring semester. Over 70 courses are available to qualified high school students in a variety of formats.

Astronomy Canadian Studies

Child Development and Family Relations Communication and Journalism


Food Science and Nutrition Geography

History Leadership Studies Mathematics Maine Studies Peace Studies

Political Science Psychology Spanish Statistics

Women’s, Gender, Sexuality Studies

Early college courses are available at the University of Maine campus in Orono, the UMaine Hutchinson Center in Belfast, and online.
