Rockport — For the first time, United Midcoast Charities will announce its 2018 grant recipients at a Grants & Dance event Thursday, Sept. 20, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St. Tickets are on sale now.

United Midcoast Charities, founded in 1942, is a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to energize Midcoast Maine’s nonprofit agencies through finance and guidance, supporting a network of resources stronger than any single organization. Through a yearly grant application and review process, UMC funds agencies that primarily benefit residents of Knox and Waldo counties. In 2017, the organization awarded grants totaling $500,000 to 57 local agencies.

The Grants & Dance grant-awarding party, supported by local branches of Bangor Savings Bank and Grasshopper Shop of Rockland — sponsorship is still available — will feature live dance music by The Right Track band, delicious appetizers from Café Miranda and a cash bar. Tickets are $20, available by calling 236-2299 or online at unitedmidcoastcharities.org/event/grants-dance-celebration/.
