Union Fair calls for quilt squares

Apr 07, 2018

Union — The Exhibition Hall at Union Fair (Aug. 18 to 25) will be raffling a queen-sized quilt themed “Maine, the Pine Tree State.” Quilters and fiber artists are invited to contribute 12-and-a-half-inch squares for this quilt (one square per person).

Style of the square and technique used is entirely up to the quilter, keeping in mind the theme. Design/pattern should be contained within the 12-inch square, to allow for the half-inch seam allowance. Quilters should not put their names on the front of the block.

Blocks will be incorporated into the quilt as space permits. Squares will be numbered as they are received and will be voted upon by visitors to the fair. Quilters of the three squares with the most votes will receive a monetary prize. The quilt itself will be on display at the Exhibit Hall during the fair and will be awarded Saturday, Aug. 25. Tickets will be $1 each, six for $5.

All squares should be completed and sent/delivered to Linda Billings, Superintendent of the Exhibition Hall, at Linda Billings, P.O. Box 992, Jefferson, ME 04348-0992 by June 30. Quilters should include name, address, phone number and email address. For more information, call 549-7207 or email llbilli@aol.com. For more information on the 2018 Union Fair, visit unionfair.org.
