Searsport — Splendiferous Sweet Shoppe, an Alice in Wonderland-themed candy store at 21 E. Main St., has opened its gilded doors for all the public to enjoy. The official ribbon-cutting took place Monday.

The shop is located in the former bank building on the corner of Main and Mosman streets. Chocolatier and shop owner Meryem Rogan said the store had a soft opening last weekend during that nearly 200 visitors attended.

Meryem's mother DeAnne Rogan, who dressed as the Queen of Hearts for the event, said, "Local people have been so supportive."

Also helping out was Meryem's grandmother, Lila Rogan.

The shop has many unique handmade, small-batch chocolates and candies with themes from nautical to whimsical, including chocolate-covered pretzel rods and gold-foiled chocolate coins in the bank vault; maybe even something for Dad?

A grand opening is planned for Saturday, June 22, from 4 to 6 p.m.
