Unity loans 1859 map to Waldo County

Mar 16, 2020

District 3 Waldo County Commissioner Amy Fowler, left, and Unity Selectman Penny Sampson hold up an antique map of Waldo County dated 1859. Sampson, who is serving her fourth year on the Waldo County Budget Committee, approached the County Commissioners during the fall of 2019 to offer the map for display in one of the county buildings — with understanding that it would be carefully preserved and returned to the town of Unity if the county decided not to display it in the future. Waldo County Commissioners William Shorey, Betty Johnson and Fowler were pleased to accept this “permanent loan,” which can be seen in the main lobby of the Finance Office, mounted in a handcrafted frame designed and built by artist and craftsman resident Richard Desrosier of the Maine Coastal Regional Reentry Center.
