We had a beautiful day for the Unity Festival on the 29th of July. I got a little too much sun working as a parking attendant. Now, we can start planning for next year. We're always looking for volunteers to help organize.

Work will begin on much-needed rebuilding and repaving of some of our sidewalks on Monday, Aug. 7. Wellman Paving out of Winterport will be here all next week. The paving will be from the Health Center to the AAA building (the old pharmacy) and from the Food Hub to UHOP. We are also adding a couple more curb cuts for wheelchair access.

Congratulations to Unity native Pam Reynolds Edwards on a successful ARHA World show with multiple awards with her horse "Barney."

Kari Hunt is one tough administrative assistant. She completed the Tough Mountain Challenge at Sunday River. It is an adventure obstacle race that tackles alpine terrain and throws in natural and man-made challenges. It's 5k in length, running up a mountain under an arsenal of snowguns and scrambling through the mud. She said it's actually harder going downhill.

On Aug. 13, beginning at 8 a.m., the American Legion Auxiliary will be holding a huge yard sale with items inside and outside the American Legion Hall on Windemere Lane in Unity. At noon, the Legion will begin selling their famous barbecued chicken for just $8 per plate! Included on that plate: half a chicken, coleslaw, baked beans, pickle, dinner roll, and a cupcake! Please join us for this tasty fundraiser where you'll also find some awesome treasures at amazing prices!

Horse shows coming up at the Unity Show ring are: Sept. 10, Equitation; Aug. 12, In Hand; and Sept. 16, Trail Challenge.

Central Maine quarter-scale Tractor Pullers had an event at Unity Raceway last week and will be scheduling more. This is for kids ages 5-19 pulling weighted "sleds" with garden tractors. Bruce Salisbury is the president. His number is 214-8754 for info.

Congratulations to the second great-grandchild for Ed and Elena Picard. Finally got a boy!

Please feel free to let me know your news, either by phone or email or catch me at the grocery store!
