It's been a long time since I've had outside Christmas lights. The last time I did, some deer got themselves tangled in them while munching on my hedges. We found the lights later in the season up on the snowmobile trail. I have now reinvested in some lights; the hedges are gone.

You'll probably be receiving lots of solicitations for donations from multiple organizations. Don't get caught up in a scam. Personally, I give my donations to the charity directly and I prefer to give locally.

On Wednesday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Unity College Dining Services will be celebrating all the holidays with a special offering for $7. This is open to the general public at Wyman Commons. Some of the menu items are roast Cornish hen, roast duck with a cherry sauce, venison osso bucco, seasonal vegetables, mashed potatoes, kugel, latkes, bagels with lox, and challah, roasted butternut squash soup and lobster bisque.

The Unity Volunteer Regional Food Pantry is doing a survey. They want to hear what classes you'd like to see offered through their education program. You can find them on Facebook or email programs@unitybarnraisers.org.

The Good Steward Thrift Shop is located on Depot Street adjacent to the Unity United Methodist Church. Lots of great items to select from.

Melanie Cole has been hard at work for months bringing us a "Wreaths Across America" ceremony.

Schedule of events for Wreath Day, Saturday, Dec. 16, at Village Cemetery, School Street, Unity. Ceremony will start promptly at 11 a.m. with an invocation by Pastor Mark Rollins, a presentation of colors, the Pledge of Allegiance, the national anthem led by Dale Hustus and scout groups, and the placing of wreaths for each branch of the military.

There will also be a brief speech, laying of wreaths for the fallen buried in the Village Cemetery and a 21-gun salute and "Taps." Afterward there will be a luncheon and Chinese auction at the Community Center.

Don't forget that our adorable-little-sister-of-a-town is also hosting a holiday shindig! Lots of family friendly holiday fun and reindeer games to be had Friday, Dec. 8, 5:30 p.m.!
