You know the saying "If it's not broke, don't fix it." I think in the case of replacing my old washing machine I should have said, "Even if it IS broke, don't fix it." It no longer would do anything other than a "large" load; the dial had become stripped after 17 years. I bought a new machine and hated it; I made them take it back. I got a different brand and I've already had to have it serviced after two months.

The Unity Cemetery Committee would like to invite you to the Unity College Center for Performing Arts on Feb. 8th at 6 p.m. to see the award-winning documentary about green burials, "A Will for the Woods." Free. Also the same night at 8 p.m., "An American Ascent" is a documentary film about the first African-American expedition to tackle North America's highest peak, Denali.

Saturday, Feb. 10, Beginning Beekeeping, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at MOFGA's Common Ground Education Center in Unity. Fee: $50 for MOFGA members; $75 for non-members. The beekeeping short course covers the essentials to get you going in the world of beekeeping, such as where to locate your apiary, characteristics of different races of bees, where to purchase bees and equipment, how to assemble that equipment, and how to establish your first hive and get it through the first season.

Saturday, Feb. 10, annual Murder Mystery Dinner Theater: "When Harry Terminated Sally," 5:30 p.m. at UCCPA.

On Wednesday, Feb. 14, at 93 Main, the Sebasticook Regional Land Trust Monthly Speaker Series, Restoring Connections to Place, 6:30 p.m., "A Local Conservation Context for Wood Turtles." Greg LeClair, a Unity College senior, will be making the presentation. Greg was the young man who worked for the town and Friends of Lake Winnecook at Kanokolus this past summer.

The annual Snowdusters chicken barbecue will be Sunday, Feb. 11, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is also a fundraiser for the Pine Tree Camp, with a 50/50 raffle.

If you haven't checked it out lately, the town website, unityme.org, has some great pictures on a slideshow. We're always looking for more and they can be sent to unity@unityme.org. Landscape, activity and business pictures are all acceptable.
