I was at Walmart the other day and my cashier's name was "Penny"; I told her she had the best name and she said I must be a Penny as well. Her supervisor was close by so she called her over and her name was "Penney." I told her she was one of the reasons people always spell my name wrong. Well, her and Penni Pushor Porter.

Sharon Coolen recently returned from a trip to Florida to see her oldest son Aaron Booton get married to Jami Childress. It also gave her an opportunity to see son Staff Sgt. Nicolas Booton before he heads back to Afghanistan next month

Still a month left of snowshoeing adventures. Meet at the Community Center Saturdays at 10 a.m. They have snowshoes available to lend.

Just when you think you know where things are, the Unity Shop 'n' Save expands their array of items and reorganizes the store. Jeremy and Jason Edwards are always open to suggestions as to what kind of items you'd like to see the store carry.

On Friday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m., Unity College Center for the Performing Arts is hosting multi-award-winning performer Wayne Hoffman. He is recognized as one of the top mentalists in the world. He currently tours the world with his stage show “Mind Candy” and his motivational speech, “The Power and Potential of the Human Mind.” He is also the author of the best-selling book “Mind Candy.”

Selectmen's meetings are still held the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Office. Not that they are overly exciting but we usually have a good time. We are not all stuffy and formal; I've been known to attend in pajamas.

Occasionally we'll have a young person from the college attend and I try to make the most of their experience. It's never too early to involve kids in local government. My mother always brought me to town meetings at the old Quonset hut gymnasium. It's there that I fell in love with politics.
