Unity news

By Penny Sampson | Feb 12, 2021

I'm excited for the Daytona 500 running Feb. 14. I prefer local short track racing, but NASCAR will do in a pinch.

I met my husband at Unity Raceway and we were married on the start/finish there. You can check out some vintage and fairly recent pictures and videos on the "Unity Raceway Photos and Memories" Facebook page.

Well then, looks like winter 2021 has decided to come after all. As I speak, my husband and Jim DeLorenzo are out grooming snowmobile trails. There was a ton of blowdowns that took a lot of effort to clean up. It was certainly cold enough to make ice, a much needed commodity for the Unity Pond ice oval races.

The races held on the lake were action packed and spectators enjoyed a sunny day. The next race will be held Feb. 20. See their Facebook page "Unity Pond Ice Ovals" or get in touch with Mike Lancaster or Darren Doughty.

Unity needs an alternate representative to the Unity Area Regional Recycling Center. If you are interested in the benefits of recycling and would like to volunteer to be on the board to represent Unity's interest, please see Kari at the town office.

No decision has been made as to the date of the annual town meeting. We are exploring different venues that will accommodate the necessary social distancing. March is probably still a little risky to be outside. I've seen beautiful sunny days at the end of March, but I've also seen snow. The election March 26 for one selectman position will still be held. Dan McCormick is running unopposed.
