Unity Town News

Photo by: Sonia attempting to save Jack the buckling

When Jack was born, his mother rejected him, not cleaning off his birth goo, his umbilical cord was left very long and bleeding, and he was cold and close to death. I brought him in, warmed him and got him up and going. After about a week and some change, I found him lying on his side and I thought he’d died. I picked him up and his ears flicked! This was my second time trying to save Jack. Maybe there was something the mother doe knew, but I had to at least try to save him. I did everything I knew to do, but Jack the buckling died just the same.  I practiced doing a necropsy on him. I noticed he had a bubble on his main artery just before entering the heart that I thought was strange and then obvious bruising/bleeding on the front of his chest and the side of his face. The necropsies have really just been so neat that I’m thinking about going back to school and getting a second degree in animal science. The only problem is classes aren’t really geared towards the non-traditional student, mostly running during regular work hours.  Boo. A reminder that Trivia Nights starts April 8 and will run every Tuesday at Unity House of Pizza from 6 - 8pm. There will be food and drink specials and prizes.
