After a year-long, $900,000 renovation project, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Belfast invites the public to an open house at 37 Miller St. The original second-floor sanctuary of the 1859 building, built by the local Methodist church, is being re-opened after decades of being closed.

Most of the massive tin ceiling, colored glass windows, curved stairwells and other original work have been preserved, while modern updates in energy efficiency, comfort, and sound system have been added. A new elevator will make the upstairs accessible to all.

On the first floor, bright new classrooms, entryway, and offices will make the building available for a range of community events. Helping Hands Family School will fill the classrooms on weekdays with its preschool students. Architect for the project was Barba + Wheelock, and the general contractor was Northeast Equipment & Supply Co.
