Belfast — First Church UCC, 104 Church St., continues its celebration of the 200th anniversary of the church's sanctuary with an organ recital, featuring Kevin J. Vaughn on the church's 1848 George Stevens tracker pipe organ, Sunday, Nov. 4, at 3 p.m.

Vaughn is director of music and organist at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in South Bend, Ind., and enjoys an emerging national and international career as a concert artist. He performs regularly as a solo organ recitalist; and recent engagements include concerts at churches and universities in California, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, New York, South Carolina and Washington. The 2018-2019 season also includes performances in Berlin, Germany, and Toronto, Canada.

Vaughn appears frequently in collaborative programs of sacred music for voice and organ with baritone Stephen Lancaster, and their first recording, “Sacred Song,” was released this summer on the Albany label. In addition to performing, Vaughn enjoys teaching privately and in master classes; and previously served on the instructional faculty of Goshen College (organ, harpsichord) and the University of Notre Dame (piano, organ).

Vaughn was a semifinalist in the 2013-2014 cycle of the National Young Artist Competition in Organ Performance sponsored by the American Guild of Organists; and won first prize in the 2015 Immanuel Lutheran Church Organ Scholar Competition in Evanston, Ill.

This is a free concert, although donations to the First Church Organ Maintenance Fund will be accepted. The First Church is an open and affirming congregation, ADA accessible. For more information, call 338-2282; visit; or check out the church’s Facebook page.
