Retired and active members of all branches of the armed services, and their families, are invited to be honored in a special worship service at 10:30 am, Sunday, May 27, at the John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John Street, Camden.

Members of the church recognize that their good fortune of living in a free society is due in great measure to the sacrifices of the thousands of men and women, and their families, who have defended our country for over 200 years.

As Memorial Day nears, echoes of the anthems of the US services are recalled, “The Army Goes Rolling Along”, “Anchors Aweigh, My Boys!”, “Off We Go into the Wild Blue Yonder”, “We are Proud to Claim the Title of the United States Marine”, and “Aye, Coast Guard, We Are For You!”.  Also, we are reminded of the vital duties performed by the Merchant Marines, especially during World War II.

All men and women who have served in any capacity will be welcomed to the special service where a Boy Scout color guard will present the flag and the focus of worship and musical presentations during the service will pay tribute to all of our service people.  Uniforms are optional.

Following the service, all in attendance are welcome to enjoy a luncheon and share stories of life in the armed force.  Reservations are not required.  Contact the church at (207) 236-4829 for further information.
