Vikings ease past Lynx, eye playoff berth

Searsport keeps working on court to gain Eastern Class C ground

Searsport — Down, but certainly not out, the Searsport boys basketball team continued its journey toward the Eastern Class C playoffs on Saturday, Jan. 19 as the Vikings squared off against Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln.

The Vikings led for much of the game and pushed past the Lynx in the final stanza en route to a 57-47 victory, ending a two-game losing streak.

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class C, Searsport (4-6, 9.8765 points) is 13th, while Houlton (14-0, 81.9444 points) is first in the 17-team region. The top 11 teams qualify for the playoffs.

On Saturday, the Vikings led 9-8 after the first quarter, while Mattanawcook took a 21-20 edge at halftime. Searsport then gained a 38-31 lead after three quarters.

Dillan Moody and Buddy Ellis each scored 14 points for Searsport, while Jacob Powell added 11; Jake Keniston, six; and Alex Carroll, two.

For MA, Gunner Maxwell tallied 16 points, while Brady Hawkins added eight; Aaron Goodine and Riley Coburn, both seven; Scott Jipson, four; Nick Haynes, three; and Regan Sereyko, two.

The Vikings were 18-of-32 (56 percent) from the charity stripe, while the Lynx were 12-of-17 (71 percent).
