Vikings, Mustangs continue to battle for wins down home stretch

Mikaela Alley pours in impressive 29 points to key Searsport girls to victory

The high school basketball regular season continues to wind to a close, as Waldo County court teams clawed for late-season victories in games played Monday through Wednesday, Jan. 28-30.

On Monday, Jan. 28, the Mount View girls were dealt a 51-29 home loss by undefeated Waterville.

On Tuesday, Jan. 29, the Waterville boys posted a 56-52 win over Mount View, while the Searsport boys fell 62-47 on the road against Sumner of East Sullivan.

The Viking girls also stayed in the playoff chase with a 63-39 victory over Sumner in a home contest on Wednesday, Jan. 30.

Then, on Jan. 31, the Mount View girls fell 52-37 on the road to Old Town and the Searsport boys lost 50-28 to Bucksport.

Girls

Old Town 52, Mount View 37

At Old Town Jan. 31, the Coyotes earned a 15-point win over the Mustangs. Old Town led 13-8, 24-17 and 39-25 at the quarter breaks.

Hannah Coolen scored 18 points for Mount View, while Shala Davis added 15 and Lydia Bryant and Sophia King two.

Hannah Richards netted 14 points for Old Town, while Sydney Loring added nine; Maddy Emerson, seven; Lexi Thibodeau and Olivia Albert, six; Alivia Coulombe, four; and Amber Morgan, Logan Gardner and Claudia Dambroise, two.

The Mustangs were 8-of-16 (50 percent) from the foul line, while the Coyotes added 4-of-6 (67 percent).

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Mount View (4-11, 24.2593) points is 13th, while Mount Desert Island (14-2, 112.3457 points) is first in the 16-team region. The top 11 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Searsport 63, Sumner 39

At Searsport Jan. 30, the Vikings jumped to a comfortable cushion on senior night and surged past the Tigers. Searsport led 19-6, 31-18 and 48-26 at the quarter breaks.

Mikaela Alley poured in 29 points to lead Searsport, while Makenzie Alley added 11; Ashten Wells, seven; Abby Stemp, five; Abby Astbury, four; Emma Spiegel, three; and Sarah Gent and Morgan Ireland, two.

Alexis Hutchins led Sumner with nine points, while Skylar Soule and Raquel Barnes added seven; Rachel Colby, six; Macy Lane, five; Jenna Prorch and Sammie Bierman, two; and Hannah Shorey, one.

The Vikings were 11-of-16 (69 percent) from the foul line, while the Tigers were 9-of-14 (64 percent).

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Class C North, Searsport (10-6, 39.8148 points) is 14th, while Madawaska (12-2, 88.9506 points) is first in the 20-team region. The top 14 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Waterville 51, Mount View 29

At Thorndike Jan. 28, the Purple Panthers made quick work of the host Mustangs. Waterville led 17-5, 26-9 and 40-19 at the quarter breaks.

Hannah Coolen scored 14 points for Mount View, while Shala Davis added four; Sage Cassidy and Leah Bradstreet, three; Sophia King and Alex Fountain, two; and Francesca Rocca, one.

Sadie Garling scored 16 points for Waterville, while Kali Thompson added 10; Jayda Murray and Maddy Martin, six; Paige St. Pierre and Sadie Works, three; Keira Gilman, Hannah Leclair and Abigail Saucier, two; and Lindsay Given, one.

The Mustangs were 6-of-11 (54 percent) from the foul line, while the Purple Panthers were 10-of-14 (71 percent).

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Mount View (4-10, 24.2593 points) is 13th, while Mount Desert Island (13-2, 100.07407 points) is first in the 16-team region. The top 11 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Boys

Bucksport 50, Searsport 28

At Searsport Jan. 31, the Golden Bucks galloped past the Vikings early and on to victory. Bucksport led 10-2, 23-10 and 37-15 at the quarter breaks.

Charlie Spiegel scored 18 points for the Vikings, while Colby Snow added four and Isaiah Runci, Josh Wright and Charlie Spinney two.

Logan Stanley scored 14 points for the Golden Bucks, while Tyson Gray added 11; Ty Giberson, seven; Jacob Donald, five; Cam Soper and Nathan Russell, four; Nolan Soucie, three; and Dylan Wight, two.

Searsport was 7-of-9 (78 percent) from the foul line, while Bucksport was 7-of-8 (87 percent).

In the Maine Principals’ Association Heal Point Standings for Class C North, Searsport (7-9, 27.5617 points) is 15th, while Central Aroostook (14-2, 122.6507 points) is first in the 20-team region. The top 14 teams qualify for the playoffs.

Waterville 56, Mount View 52

At Waterville Jan. 28, the Purple Panthers edged the visiting Mustangs. Waterville led 13-12, 35-27 and 48-36 at the quarter breaks.

Neal Kenney scored 15 points for Mount View, while Brennan Grant added 14; Declan Knowlton, 10; Draedyn Furrow, six; Sean Raven, five; and Joe Grassi, two.

David Barre scored 13 points for Waterville, Taylor Bielecki added 12; Liam Von Oesen, nine; Jack Thompson, six; Jack Lloyd, four; Mohammad Ali Atif-Sheikh and Trafton Gilbert, three; and Taylor Bielecki and Noah Von Oesen, two.

The Mustangs were 0-of-2 from the foul line, while the Purple Panthers were 7-of-10 (70 percent).

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Class B North, Mount View (1-14, 3.5185 points) is 16th, while Caribou (13-3, 139.9383 points) is first in the 16-team region. The top 11 teams qualify for the playoffs.
