Volunteers needed for Searsport Cleanup Day April 24

Apr 16, 2021

Searsport — Searsport Cleanup Day takes place Saturday, April 24, beginning at 9 a.m.

Organizers are looking for volunteers of all ages to help clean up streets and beaches. Meet at Mermaid Plaza, 1 E. Main St., for equipment, doughnuts and details. Cleanup route will extend from Moose Point to Sears Island along both road and coastal sections. The focus will be on collecting garbage/debris, preparing garden beds/ boxes and cutting brown-tail moth nests (if comfortable doing so).

Materials collected that morning can be dropped off at the Mermaid Plaza parking lot. From there they will be transported to the Searsport Transfer Station, which will be opening to help with town cleanup day.

Doughnuts and coffee at 9 a.m.; burgers and dogs at noon for all volunteers.

Volunteers are asked to bring gloves and mask, wear a bright shirt and have clippers handy if willing to cut out brown-tail moth webs (special soap containers will be provided for nests).

Sponsored by the Head of the Bay Business Association (HOBBA).
