Voters asked to allow sale of surplus items

By Susan Mustapich | Apr 27, 2021

Lincolnville — The town of Lincolnville will hold a special town meeting Thursday, May 6 to seek approval from voters to sell surplus equipment.

The socially distanced meeting will take place at 6 p.m. on the recreation area behind the Lincolnville Central School.

The items the town wants to sell are currently Fire Department equipment. One is an air tank refill system, including a compressor, and the other is a John Deere lawn tractor.

The Fire Department has recently upgraded its self-contained breathing apparatus, according to Fire Chief Don Fullington III.

Fullington had approval from the Board of Selectmen to donate the air packs to the Matinicus Fire Department. Because the air compressor for the system is valued at more than $5,000, voter authorization is needed to dispose of it, and it cannot be donated by the town, according to Town Administrator David Kinney.

Any funds from the sale of the equipment will go to the Fire Department reserve fund.

The board approved the special town meeting warrant April 26.

The board also charged the Wage and Personnel Policy Board with researching options to provide life insurance to the town's firefighters, who are all volunteers, and paid minimally for their services.

Selectman Jordan Barnett-Parker suggested providing life insurance for the town's firefighters April 12.

The Personnel Policy Board is asked to report its findings back to the Board of Selectmen in October.
