Scam Alert

The Sheriff's Office has recently come across a scam targeting commercial drivers. A letter from the company dotservice.com, asks recipients to perform an update to their DOT account or risk "civil penalties" of up to $1,000 a day. The company, however, is not part of state or federal departments of transportation, according to police. Those who have received this letter or have already responded to the scam should contact Waldo County Sheriff's Office at 338-6786.

Readers are reminded that an arrest or summons does not constitute a finding of guilt. An individual charged with a crime is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at criminal proceedings.
