Waldo County Y makes plans for reopening

By Sarah E. Reynolds | May 11, 2020

Belfast — Officials at the Waldo County YMCA hope to be able to reopen parts of the facility to the public June 1, but for now, they're playing a waiting game, according to Membership Director Bruce Osgood.

Reached by phone May 11, Osgood said the state's Y's are waiting for details from the state as to the conditions for reopening. "We've been sitting around trying to make plans, but it's difficult without the specifics," he said. He does not expect to be able to open the pool in June, but hopes other parts of the facility will be able to welcome public. In preparation for that time, he said, the Y has been cleaning, disinfecting and painting.

In the meantime, some classes have been offered via Zoom and Facebook Live, and some have been held outdoors, Osgood said.

The Y's Facebook page also mentions a virtual Mother's Day celebration held by its preschool May 8.

Osgood said the Y would release news of its reopening plans as soon as they are finalized. Its phone number is 338-4598.
