Waldo County YMCA Bluefish swimmers excel at state championships

Graf brings home 11-12 boys 100 freestyle title; four team records bested

Orono — The Waldo County YMCA Bluefish swimmers experienced strong success — which included one state championship and four new team records — during the state YMCA championships Friday through Sunday, March 2-4 at the University of Maine.

There were many highlights for the Bluefish, including the fact Brigham Graf finished first in for 11-12 boys 100 freestyle in 59.58.

The Bluefish also earned a bundle of top-five and top-three performances.

According to the Bluefish website, Maeve Littlefield bested her team girls 11-12 record for the 50 free in 27.16. The older mark was 27.18 set in 2001.

Rudi Schnetzer bettered the team's senior boys 50 free record with 22.27 (the previous mark was 22:46 in 2008).

Kayla Payson bested the team's senior girls 100 butterfly record for the second time this season. Her new mark is 1:01.80.

Additionally, the girls 11-12 200 free relay team of Maeve Littlefield, Romy Lafage, Mia Winslow and Finley Marriner reset their team mark at 1:57.57.

Overall, the Bluefish finished ninth among 16 Maine teams.
