Waldo Dems offer women $500 candidate training scholarship

The Waldo County Democratic Committee is offering a $500 scholarship to encourage more women to run for and serve in public office. The scholarship will be awarded in August to a Waldo County resident participating in the Emerge Maine candidate training program.

Emerge Maine provides an in-depth, 70-hour training program that prepares Democratic women to run for office. Sessions are held one weekend a month in different parts of the state from September through February. Participants develop practical knowledge about all aspects of a campaign, with training delivered by a team of campaign consultants, advisers and staff from all over Maine.

The deadline to apply is June 30.

Applicants for the Emerge Maine program must apply through Local applicants will be contacted after the June 30 deadline to offer them the chance to apply for the Waldo County Democratic Committee’s scholarship.

The scholarship will be awarded to a Waldo County resident who is registered to vote as a Democrat, has a demonstrated commitment to political activities, and has been accepted into the Emerge Maine training class of 2020. Financial need will also be considered.
