Waldo Triad annual auction set for Sept. 14

Belfast — Waldo County Triad, a partnership of law enforcement, first responders, community groups, churches and others to aid seniors, will hold its annual fundraising auction Friday, Sept. 14, at the Tarratine Tribe's Red Men Hall, 153 Main St.

Auction items will be set up for previewing at 5 p.m., with the auction set to begin at 5:45 p.m.

On the auction block will be gift certificates, furniture, jewelry, art, antiques and more. There also will be food concessions available and a 50/50 raffle. Donations are welcome.

Proceeds will benefit Triad's community resources for older adults.

Waldo County Triad's goals are to:

o Increase awareness about how to avoid becoming a victim of fraud and other crimes.

o Improve readiness for personal emergencies.

o Increase awareness about how to be safer at home.

o Remove unwanted and out-of-date medications from homes and provide proper disposal.

o Develop a network of volunteers to help to improve the safety of older persons throughout Waldo County.

o Keep up-to-date on safety issues for the older population and to find ways to help meet those needs through education and service.

The organization provides the following services for residents age 50 and older:

• Files of Life that hold health information so emergency personnel can find it easily if it should be needed.

• Cell phones for older persons to use to dial 911 for help in an emergency.

• Daily assurance phone calls to older people who are living alone.

• A quarterly newsletter with current information regarding scams, home security tips, local programs, and information on ways to remain safe at home and in the community.

• Presentations to groups on ways to avoid becoming a victim of fraud.

• The collection of unwanted and out-of­ date medications for proper disposal.

• Senior Recognition Day that provides lunch and activities for any older person interested in attending.

• Registration of older persons prone to wander and need help to return home.

• Distribution of warm clothing and blankets to help older people to keep warm in their homes during the winter.
