Waldo woman cited for Route 1 wreck

Photo by: Ben Holbrook Police charged a Waldo woman with failure to maintain control of a vehicle after her Chevrolet Impala struck an oncoming Ford Fiesta on Route 1 Monday, June 30.

Belfast — A Waldo woman was cited by police after she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into an oncoming car on Route 1.

At about 1 p.m. Monday, June 30, Karen M. Carrara-Hodgdon, 47, of Waldo, was traveling south on Route 1 when she attempted to pass a vehicle that was trying to turn left onto Tozier Street. When Carrara-Hodgdon attempted to get around the vehicle, she left the roadway briefly before losing control of her Chevrolet Impala and striking a Ford Fiesta, driven by Ed Gowens, who was heading north on Route 1.

Carrara-Hodgdon suffered a concussion as a result of the crash and was taken to Waldo County General Hospital for treatment, Detective Sgt. Bryan Cunningham said. Gowens suffered minor cuts to his arms.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene.

Belfast Ambulance, Fire and Police responded to the crash, as well as a deputy from the Waldo County Sheriff's Office.

Carrara-Hodgdon was cited for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.
