WCGH to offer free flu shots starting Oct. 15

Sep 30, 2019

Belfast — With flu season just around the corner, Waldo County General Hospital and Belfast Public Health Nursing Association have scheduled free flu shot clinics to protect you and your family.

The next free flu clinic at WCGH will be held Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the hospital at 116 Northport Ave. Walk-ins are welcome.

“These free clinics are a big part of our effort to make our community the healthiest in America,” said Susan Dupler, RN, Belfast public health nurse. The Centers for Disease Control estimates that up to 20% of the population — about 60 million people — catch the flu annually. “A flu shot can help make sure you’re not one of them,” Dupler said.

Flu shots will be available for adults only.

The optimal time to get flu vaccine is before the end of October, ahead of flu activity. While influenza viruses circulate year-round, in Maine the flu season occurs primarily in the fall and winter and can last into late spring. Flu activity peaks between December and February.

The adult flu clinic schedule is as follows:

Oct. 15: 6:30-9 a.m. and 4-7 p.m. in the teleconference room on the lower level of the hospital.

Oct. 24: 4-7 p.m. in the classroom.

Nov. 5: 6:30-9 a.m. and 4-7 p.m. in the teleconference room.

Nov. 12: 4-7 p.m. in the classroom.

Dec. 3: 6:30-9 a.m. and 4-7 p.m. in the teleconference room.
