Wednesday Advent Services at Nativity Lutheran

As the days grow shorter, we wait. Advent is Latin for “to come.” We wait for the babe to come at Christmas, we wait for the Second Coming of Christ, our Savior coming again in glory, and we wait for the hope and assurance that Jesus comes to us each day in the ordinary—in word and song, in bread and wine, in the gathered community. This Advent we have an additional way to gather as community, to wait together, to live in hope, to wait for the comings.

We will gather at Nativity on Wednesday evenings and worship using the meditative service of the Holden Evening Prayer. Written in 1985-1986 while Marty Haugen was the musician-in-residence at Holden Village, a Lutheran retreat center in Washington State, this lovely setting of vespers follows the traditional form while using contemporary and inclusive language.

Take a break from the hectic pace at this time of the year and worship and celebrate with us during this season of anticipation and joy! Join us at 5:30 PM on Wednesday evenings (the 4th, 11th 18th) during Advent for Holden Evening Prayer. Nativity Lutheran Church is located at 179 Old County Road in Rockport. All are welcome. You are welcome.
