West Bay Rotary honors Robert Falciani

By West Bay Rotary Club | Jul 31, 2019

At the July 25th meeting of West Bay Rotary, Rotary District 7790 Governor Suzanne Uhl-Melanson honored Camden Selectman Robert Falciani with a Certificate of Appreciation.

When West Bay Rotary President Kim Milton asked the board for suggestions for this award, board members did not hesitate to recommend Mr. Falciani.  The West Bay Rotary Board and the District Governor all feel that he epitomizes Rotary’s “People of Action” theme.

Robert Falciani was born in Boston and raised in Quincy, Massachusetts.  He was educated in Massachusetts where he earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and two master’s degrees, one in mechanical engineering and one in business education.  Throughout his career, Robert has been involved in worldwide industrial manufacturing projects of all types.  He later applied his experience in business management, finance and accounting, and project management in academia.  He has taught higher education at University of Maine and Wentworth Institute of Technology.

Since being elected to the Camden Select Board in 2017, Mr. Falciani has worked hard for the town of Camden.  He was elected Chair of the Select Board in 2019, and according to the town of Camden’s website, he is on several other committees:  Budget Committee, CRMS Building Committee, Harbor Committee, Investment Committee, Parks and Recreation Committee, and Route One North Advisory Committee.  According to West Bay Rotarian Tim Dresser, “He has been the trouper looking out for those of us living on Route One as DOT begins their widening project”.

When asked to briefly summarize his career and accomplishments, Robert said, “If I had to briefly summarize areas of interest to our audience I believe it is the diverse international (36 countries) and domestic (25 states) experience dealing with wildly different government entities. While I am often quoted as saying, ‘Think regionally but act locally’, what I really mean is think outside the local box. Draw on that experience. It is far too easy to get into a local mind set and lose sight of the bigger picture. This is true from a general management, financial, organizational and strategic perspective. This has helped me in all aspects of what I have done in business management, project planning and development, and, more recently, in University teaching and Select Board.”

Rotary is an organization that takes action both locally and globally, so West Bay Rotary is proud to help honor Robert Falciani as an important person in our community and as a true person of action.  It is a well-deserved recognition.
