Multiple fire departments and Maine Forest Service responded to Sanborn Pond in Brooks Sunday, July 30, to extinguish a fire on the shore that burned as many as two acres.

Getting to the fire proved challenging, with boats transporting firefighters and equipment to the scene and a Forest Service helicopter called in to dump water on the blaze, which took nearly two hours to put out.

A call to Brooks Fire Chief Jeff Archer seeking additional information was not returned.
