Belfast — Belfast Free Library will host a virtual presentation with wildlife biologist Geri Vistein, “Coyote Lives in a Democracy,” Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 6:30 p.m. To register for the Zoom link, go to belfastlinbrary.org/virtual-programs.

The expression "Keystone Carnivore" is used to describe coyotes in Maine, but its meaning often is not fully understood. In this virtual presentation, coyote will be introduced in this context, and how their important role affects us and the landscape of Maine in vitally important ways. We are all inextricably connected. But Maine's coyotes are being prevented from freely and effectively acting in their capacity as a keystone. What is the cause of this? Join the Zoom presentation to find out.

Geri Vistein is a carnivore biologist and founder of Coyote Center for Carnivore Ecology and Coexistence in Maine. The focus of her work is sharing with communities what we are coming to know about our recovering carnivores, as well as the skills needed for us to live well with them.
