Winslow slowly pulls away from Mount View

Host Mustangs hand tough until end of court encounter

Thorndike — The Mount View and Winslow girls basketball squads battled in a low-scoring, competitive court affair Tuesday night, Jan. 15, with the game tight throughout before the visiting Black Raiders secured a 10-point victory.

Mount View led 8-6 after one quarter and Winslow grabbed 15-14 and 25-21 edges at the next two stanza breaks before the visitors settled for a 35-25 win.

For Mount View, Courtney Morse tallied 11 points; Brooke Tripp, four; Kaitlin Leavitt, three; Morgan Clifford, two; and Alexis Morse, one. The Mustangs made 4-of-6 free throws (67 percent).

For Winslow, Devin Fitzgibbons tallied 12 points; Alyssa Wood, eight; Meg Nadeau, five; Sarah Wildes and Hannah Doble, both four; and Megan Richards, one. The Raiders netted 4-of-12 free throws (33 percent).

In the Maine Principals' Association Heal Point Standings for Eastern Class B, Mount View (2-8, 4.8765 points) is 15th, while Presque Isle (12-0, 57.8086 points) is first in the 19-team region. The top 13 squads qualify for the regional playoffs.
