Winter farmers' market offers local goods for holiday purchase

Dec 04, 2012

The Brooks Park Boosters Winter Farmers' Market will be open Saturdays, Dec. 8 and Dec. 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market is held indoors at The Varney Building, 24 Veteran's Highway (Route 7) in Brooks. Certified organic vegetables, local meats, baked goods, jams, sauces and holiday crafts will be available.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients are welcome at the market and will receive 50-percent off their total purchase when they use their EBT card for SNAP-eligible market items. This opportunity is made possible by a grant from the Wholesome Wave Foundation in conjunction with Maine Farmland Trust.

The market vendors are also coordinating an online, multi-farm pre-order to provide customers access to local, affordable farm products during the winter months. The online multi-farm pre-order is accessible to individuals, restaurants and businesses, and is one of the first steps in developing a cooperative storefront in Brooks.
