NEVAH, a band with local musicians in it, will be playing in Hermon on Sunday, Oct. 14, at 4 p.m. for a benefit fundraiser for a Brewer teacher who has cancer. They will be at Morita's Dance Studio, which is located next to the Morgan Hill Event Center.

Ellingwoods Corner United Methodist Church, at Route 69 and Monroe Road, is having an indoor yard sale and church supper Saturday, Oct. 13. The yard sale is from 8 a.m.-noon and again from 4-6 p.m. The old-fashioned church supper consists of two kinds of beans made from scratch. Homemade side dishes such as coleslaw, brown bread, pickles, pies, cakes and ice cream will accompany the beans. All you can eat. Adults $6, and children under 12 $3. Takeout is available. The supper is from 4-6 p.m. For more information contact Deb Calderwood at 234- 2762.

Winterport Historical Association will be having a meeting and a potluck, Oct. 8 at the museum. The program will be presented by four members of the association, and is titled "Fun from the Files." Remember to bring your own place setting for the potluck supper. Beverages will be provided.

The Winterport Memorial Library has just receied a gift of 100 new children's books, ranging from pre-kindergarten through early readers. These books were a donation from the Brownstone Book Fund, a private foundation in New York City that is interested in fostering early reading, a love of books, and encouraging parents and children to read together. Come to the library and enjoy this new collection. Library is open Tuesday 2-7 p.m., Wednesday 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Thursday 2-7 p.m., Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m.-noon. The fifth grade completed their Starbase adventure for this year. As always, the students had a great time and learned many new things. There is no school Monday, Oct. 8, in observance of Columbus Day. There will be an early dismissal Oct. 26 for staff in-service training. School pictures will be taken Oct. 24.

Dog licenses will be available Oct. 15. Nuetered or spayed dogs are $6, intact pets are $11. Bring proof of their rabies shots and of the surgery.

It is time to clean up downtown for fall. Home owners, renters, and business owners in Winterport are requested help make our town look good by getting rid of the weeds between the curb and the sidewlk, and the curb and the street. It won't take long and will make a real difference in how the town looks.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Ray Hills Sr. of Winterport, who passed away Sept. 28.
