    Searsmont news

For weeks, Searsmonters diligently watched for the first green shoots and flower buds, trying to catch “the moment” when trees grew leaves, lilac flowers turned purple, and brown thatch transformed into green grass. We risked tick attacks walking into the meadows and a caterpillar rash walking under oaks and crabapples. We endured rain and wind, too. Don’t know about you, but we blinked last week and missed it. Glad it happened, though. A very happy spring to you.

    Stockton Springs

The Book, Bake and Plant Sale is scheduled for Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please bring in any plants to donate from Wednesday, June 1, through Friday, June 3, for sale. This is always a terrific event and raises funds for the library to use for more books and everything else that the library provides for our community.

    Freedom news

Catherine and Sophia spent this last weekend in Texas visiting one of Catherine’s friends, so I had the house to myself for a couple of precious days. I had a couple of friends over Friday night, and had a couple of others come up from Portland on Saturday to go golfing in Brooks. We also went swimming in Lake St. George, spent much time outside soaking up the sun, and reminisced about our shared school days.

The First Congregational Church Missions Committee would like to thank everyone who purchased the Ukrainian “pysanky” Easter eggs, bought an Easter takeout meal, or contributed in other ways to their Ukrainian relief fund raising campaign. Since the war began First Church has sent $3,003 to International Ministries and $4,650 to Project HOPE to provide medicines and medical supplies to Ukrainian settlements.

    Jackson news

Hope you all have a lovely Memorial Day Weekend in whatever you do — fishing, opening camp, or watching a local parade. Monroe will be having a Memorial Day parade at 11 a.m. And I hope it is warm! I will admit it, I broke down and started the wood stove back up today. I just couldn’t get the chill out of this big ole farmhouse. If you see my parents out and about on May 29, be sure to wish Bill and Kathleen a happy 60th wedding anniversary!
