Large employers in Waldo County suggest staff be vaccinated

Shah: Wastewater testing better for detecting community COVID-19 level than case count
While hospitalizations are up, the severity of cases has decreased, according to Dr. Nirav Shah, director of the Maine CDC. In his Jan. 19 media briefing, he said 20 municipal wastewater systems would provide data for a new program to track how much of the virus is in communities.

Contact tracing optional if schools have universal mask policy
Because the omicron variant of COVID-19 is highly contagious and is spread from person to person quicker than earlier variants, contract tracing has become less effective, according to Dr. Nirav Shah, director of the Maine CDC.
