    The Waldo Peirce Reading Room and Library will host a Maine book, craft and food sale, with a drawing for a turkey dinner, on Saturday, Nov. 19, at the library, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m., when the drawing for the turkey dinner will occur.

    A black bear was spotted on a trail cam last week. This was not far from my house, and the bear was seen at the site of a deer kill. Frankfort, being mountainous, features lots of places for bears to make their dens.

    I stepped out one morning last week to see that something had taken a pumpkin from my porch. The half-eaten pumpkin lay on the ground, with bits of flesh scattered about. The first thing that came to mind was deer, but given where I live, that is quite unlikely. Then the blame shifted to porcupines. Later, when speaking about this to a friend, I learned that this is a favorite trick of gray squirrels. Mystery solved.

    Frankfort has a brand-new business. Embroider Me, Custom Embroidery and Sewing, has its grand opening Monday, Oct. 3. Embroider Me is located in the same building as Frankfort Barber Shop, in the center of the village on Route 1A. Their phone number is 954-8699. We wish this new business much success.

    The latest bout of COVID infections in town appear to have diminished. Fortunately, this strain hasn’t caused severe symptoms in most people. Hopefully, everything will return to normal in the near future.

    It was a rough week for me. A form of the flu-type virus I contracted early this summer came back to bite me and it was quite debilitating. I am on the mend, but still not my old self.

    Soon, on a day when we least expect it, Asian ladybird beetles (let’s just call them Asian ladybugs) will invade homes by the hundreds and thousands. These insidious creatures were brought here purposely for insect control and now they are the ones that need controlling.
