Sorry I missed last week’s column; I’ve been ill. I still have a virus that makes me cough and has drained me so that the slightest exertion takes its toll. Add to that I had an allergic reaction to some food item last Tuesday night and was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor by the Winterport Ambulance service.

I’ve just learned that Frankfort will once again have a Fourth of July parade, beginning at 9 a.m. Last year was the first for me and the size of the crowd impressed me greatly. People came out in droves and everyone had a good time. Also, this year, the Frankfort Congregational Church may offer hot dogs and hamburgers in the church/town hall parking lot. (More on this as the time draws near.)

Sunday, May 22, was sunny and warm as the community gathered at the Veterans Memorial Garden to welcome home, thank, and honor our Vietnam War Era veterans for their 50th anniversary (1955-1975).

Tree-trimming along town roads has made Frankfort a busy place over the last week. Crews are doing a thorough job of removing any tree limbs or leaning trees that may break during a storm and cause power outages.

The constant cold, windy and rainy weather has put a damper on Frankfort residents’ thoughts of spring. Sooner or later things must change, but it doesn’t look to happen any time soon.

A Frankfort resident living in the center of town had his van stolen last week. More details are not forthcoming, but this just goes to show that no one anywhere is immune to the acts of criminals.

I could scarce believe my eyes the other day while driving past Wentworth’s store in Frankfort Village. The price of regular gas was over $4 per gallon. The price of gas and all other fuels continues to rise and where it will stop, nobody knows. The prospect is very disturbing.
