Medical examiner: Cause of death was battered child syndrome
As a result of the autopsy, the medical examiner testified that the boy had a transected pancreas, a mesentery tear in the small bowel of the child and fractures to the L2 and L3 vertebrae that he said were consistent with a tremendous car accident, a fall from a great height or perhaps someone stomping on the child.
