    Listening over the past two weeks to the talented chamber music performers at Muzzy Ridge Concerts and swingin’ Hot Supper and Mondaynite Jazz Orchestra musicians, we were struck by the importance of working together to make fine music.     Six members of the Searsmont Broadband Advisory Task Force hosted an hour-long July 20 meeting to present information and answer questions about the town’s joining with Montville, Liberty, Palermo and Freedom to create a Broadband Utility District to be known as the Waldo Broadband Corp.

    When you live in a place as beautiful as Searsmont, one of the puzzles of taking a summer vacation is “why leave such a glorious place?” The weather is good. Mosquitoes and black flies are getting slower. Taking a planned trip to Canada, we will miss the accelerating production of garden greens and the first broccoli. There really is no time other than mud season when it feels good to leave.

    Bruce Brierley passed away at home on June 13, surrounded by his dear wife Sandra and members of his family. Searsmont mourns the passing of a man who devoted more than 30 years to serving this town, many of them as first selectman.
