BEP upholds $17,800 fine for Sprague
Maine DEP officials argued that because the discharge was a one-time event and Sprague had taken a number of corrective actions to prevent future spills, and because the material did not have a notification requirement, the penalty was appropriate. Opponents contend the event should be treated as an oil spill as defined by Maine law.
