Well I am not $1.2 billion richer and neither is anyone else. We'll be able to dream for a few more days until the next jackpot is drawn. It's fun to think about what I'd do with all that money.

I don't know how people ever managed without power steering. I briefly lost my power steering in my car this past week; I used muscles I didn't know I had trying to get the car to turn!

I've had a couple lovely does feeding regularly under my apple trees. One doe is sans fawn(s) and the other has twins. They are pretty used to us and rarely raise their flags.

The public works squirrels and chipmunks have been hard at work cleaning the sidewalks of acorns. I watched them the other morning while I was meeting with a surveyor at the Town Office. They don't heed the traffic, nor do they wear orange safety vests!

Beautiful fall day and the traffic has been steadily flowing past my house on their way to the Common Ground Fair after a two-year hiatus.

Fall is my favorite season and we certainly felt it this week! I hate to get rid of my summer flowers; they are still going strong, but it's time to consider replacing them with mums and pumpkins. Apples are ready for picking.

My apologies for not writing a column last week; I plumb ran out of time. Some weeks are like that, trying to cram in doctor visits and town business while trying to get housework and other projects done before the snow flies.

I love our sunflower patch outside the Town Office. I pulled in the other morning and it was awash in color and activity. The bees love them and the American goldfinches have found the ones that have started turning to seed.

We certainly needed those two days of slow, soaking rain; I can almost see the lawn turning green.
