Wow! That 30-degree drop in temperature was certainly welcome! Growing up we never had air conditioning; maybe that's why we spent so much time at the lake.

I took a vacation of sorts this week. Basically it meant that I got some stuff done before we run out of summer.

"Owen" the opossum and I have one thing in common: We both love watermelon! The raccoons don't eat it so Owen gets his fill.

As many of you know, I spend a lot of free time cleaning cemetery stones. This past week I was cleaning a baby's stone and noticed the inscription, "John Berry, Son of George and Vivian Berry 1942-1943." I grew up next door to the Berrys and never knew that they had a son who died at the tender age of one. I looked for their stone, not recollecting having seen one. I couldn't find their stone.

I was becoming a little concerned that I hadn't seen "Owen" the opossum lately. Upon my returning from a Select Board meeting a few nights ago at approximately 9 p.m., he was hanging out on my porch enjoying some leftovers. He ran under the cover of the porch; I wish he wasn't so shy.

Strawberry season! I made two batches of jam and had some extra to make my husband some strawberry sauce for his ice cream.

The "Red Rocket" is back on the road again after she received a new water pump, belt and thermostat. Thank you to my brother Matt who loaned me his Pontiac Vibe for a week; it was nice traveling incognito!

I felt well enough to go to Wiscasset Speedway on June 11. It was nice to see some old friends and listen to the sound of big motors. Unfortunately our LMS got caught up in a wreck, along with Frankie Moulton, and ended their day prematurely. The guys are out in the shop doing some damage repair. My car broke down on Election Day, but the race car takes precedence. It was great to see Dave "Boss Hog'' St. Clair still wheeling a car at age 74; he not only wheels it, he's a contender!

It's been pretty quiet as of late. I'm knocking on wood because now that I've said that all heck will probably break loose.
